London Recording 2006
London
Next, I was in London for a recording of Pacini's Allessandro nell'Indie. Not revived since about 1827, this was one of the last projects that Opera Rara founder Patric Schmid had planned. The good people at Opera Rara concocted a clean score of it from bits and pieces, and and I sang the part of Cleofide. IT IS THE LONGEST DARN THING I HAVE EVER SUNG! The girl just doesn't shut up!! I tired myself out in the rehearsals, and nearly sang myself hoarse in the first day of recording, so in order to save myself for the concert the following Sunday, I went on vocal rest. Not fun. The orchestra, meanwhile, tracked in my part without me, and I'm going to go back this summer and track in my stuff. Rested up from my week off, I sang a great concert - the first time this opera has been heard in a theater in over 180 years! How exciting. While in town, I was able to hang out with my favorite mezzo of all time, Jennifer Larmore. And our mutually dear friend, Derek Lee Ragin, came to visit, so this at least made up for the tedium of vocal rest that followed. (Derek AND Jennie pictured at left)
